Students make trustee proud

I am so incredibly proud of the York Catholic community of staff, students and parents for their amazing fundraising efforts put forth to help those in need after the recent earthquake in Haiti. Many schools held fundraisers such as bake sales and jersey days, with the proceeds going to help people rebuild their homes and communities.

At Our Lady of the Rosary CES, students were busy making fruggles—little woollen dolls that represent friendship, kindness and love, inspired by the book “For the Love of Fruggles,” by Wendy Wong.  The students and staff began making fruggles during their recess breaks. All students then had the chance to purchase fruggles for $1 each to send to their friends for Valentine’s Day. The school raised over $1,000, with proceeds going to York Catholic’s Haiti relief fund.

Students and staff were also busy celebrating National Flag of Canada Day on Feb. 15. Many schools paid tribute to the Canadian flag and all that it represents with special Flag Day ceremonies. At St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Elementary School, staff and students gathered together on Feb. 11 to celebrate Flag Day and also mark the opening of the Olympic Games. Students and staff dressed in red and white and waved the flags they created for the celebration.
