It is quite clear that the online gaming industry is thriving in Canada. In fact, this has been the case since 1996, when the Kahnawake Gaming Commission (KGC) was established. We then got into a golden age in 2010 when parliament gave provinces the authority to conduct and manage online gambling activities within their borders. And today, the industry has become quite mature.

One of the reasons is of course the fact that almost everything now is being done online. To get started, you only need to visit a comprehensive online casino comparison site such as nettikasinoguide and you’ll find a reliable casino. But besides this, there are various other major trends that are shaping the gambling industry in Canada.

Emergence of New Platforms and Operators

The biggest trend in the Canadian space has been new platforms and operators coming in. This is has been driven by the increasing legalization by various provinces, with most of them now running their own casinos. It’s something that started a while back in 2004 with British Columbia when the province launched PlayNow. And after some stagnation, it has been joined by the likes of Alberta, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan to form a trend.

Saskatchewan is the latest to join the trend, having launched its first legal online gaming platform in 2022. Some of the provinces that do not operate their own casinos have also seen the opportunity partnered with third-party operators to tap into the market.

Popularity of Mobile Gaming and Live Dealer Games

Mobile gaming is the main trend when it comes to online casinos. In fact, it has been a natural evolution of gaming as we spend lots of time on our mobile phones, and we go with them everywhere. This gives gamers a whole new level of convenience as they can play from anywhere and at any time. To facilitate mobile gaming, online casinos provide mobile apps that you can install and have web apps that are fully compatible with mobile devices.

The other evolutionary trend has been live dealer gaming. This type of gaming has quickly grown in popularity, and rightly so. It allows players to combine the convenience of being able to play from anywhere with the thrill of playing with a live dealer. There are lots of games that you can play with a live dealer, starting with traditional ones such as blackjack and roulette.

    Increasing Adoption of Cryptocurrencies

When it comes to technology, something that has had a huge impact in the online casino scene is cryptocurrency. Through cryptos such as Bitcoin, users can make casino deposits without the scrutiny that credit cards attract. You also won’t have to worry about currency conversion when playing with an international casino. And on top of that, your transactions will also be processed faster, and you can also benefit from the price movements of crypto.

Diversification of Game Genres and Themes

One trend that you can greatly benefit from is the increasing diversification of game genres and themes. A while back, you could only play a limited number of classic casino games such as blackjack, roulette, and slots. However, there’s a lot of creativity that has been brought by game developers, and there are lots of new games and variations of classic games you can play. Some are video slots, 3D slots, progressive jackpots, and several skill-based games.

Besides these, you can also enjoy re-imagined versions of the games you know, starting with poker. There are then online slots that can take you on a safari adventure or even let you interact with iconic figures such as Michael Jackson. All these trends have made online casinos more popular in Canada and beyond, and the rise in popularity is only expected to continue.
