Vivo announced the new Android-based operating system at its annual developer conference in China. OriginOS is the successor to FuntouchOS and features a complete design overhaul that prioritizes widgets and arranges them in a grid-like layout. Tools can update themselves with notifications called “nano alerts”.

“The origins of OriginOS are built around three frontiers based on the demands of smartphone consumers: design, softness and comfort,” Vivo says in a statement. “OriginOS repurposes familiar features with exciting new designs to create the ultimate smartphone experience.”

From All polished Android versions availableVivo’s FuntouchOS has always been the most straightforward in iOS, with a similar notification design, color palettes, and use of transparency. OriginOS ’tile-based approach to tools is not a million miles away from what Apple this year introduced iOS 14, Although this was not exactly the most distinctive design in and of itself. For its part, Vivo says it is inspired by Huarong Dao, the Chinese alternative to Klotsky’s sliding puzzle.

Vivo also claims that OriginOS will be less resource intensive than FuntouchOS, with fewer RAM requirements. We’ll have to test it ourselves once it comes out, but there’s very little information in this regard – Vivo hasn’t said anything about the release date. However, the company showed a mockup of the operating system running on The current flagship X50 (above).
