It’s been quite a couple of years for Tyson Fury. Not only has he come back from obscurity in boxing, but within a handful of fights since his return, he’s once again the heavyweight champion of the world.
The final two fights in a titanic trilogy against Deontay Wilder were astonishing, full of skill, determination, and ultimately winning performances. The third bout was the pick of the bunch, as SportsKeeda called it, a fight for the ages, and they couldn’t be closer to the truth. Fury showed all his pugilistic prowess to outbox and knock out one of the hardest hitters in the game after he had to summon all his strength to get back to his feet after being knocked down by the Bronze Bomber.
Following the victory, fans and boxing experts are pondering what might come next for the British fighter. Who is there that Fury can face for the title, but not only that who does the Brit want to take on next in the ring? Is there anyone that can stop the unbeaten 33-year-old? The latest Ladbrokes boxing odds suggest Tyson could face four different opponents next year, including Olexandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua. Usyk is the current holder of the remaining world titles, after defeating Joshua. But they’re not the only potential names lined up for Fury, so let’s look at some of the future options for the current WBC world heavyweight champion.
Dillian Whyte
Whyte is another big punching heavyweight who is a firm favorite with fans and has been in and around the periphery of the top table in the heavyweight division for a long time. He’s the mandatory challenger for Fury’s WBC belt, and they have ordered the pair to get the fight on. However, it’s not that simple, and there’s an ongoing decision about the purse, delaying an agreement. But, if Whyte, a former kickboxer, is to get in the ring with Fury finally, we can expect fireworks. Whyte has a solid record of 28 wins and 19 by knockout, and with the authorities pushing for the fight, it looks likely to happen.
Francis Ngannou
Now, this would be an interesting bout, the current heavyweight champion from the UFC v the best in the sweet science of boxing. Ngannou has previously stated he’d love to get into boxing against the likes of Fury before his sporting career ends, and Fury almost taunted him recently with a tweet asking his fans if they’d love to see the pair get it on. It’s resulted in an exchange of words between the pair, but it is hard to imagine it happening. Fury still has bigger fish to fry.
Oleksandr Usyk
Usyk has been a revelation ever since he first stepped into the boxing ring; as an amateur, he won gold at the 2012 Olympics before heading into the pro fight scene in 2013. After just 15 fights, he’d unified the cruiserweight world championship before stepping up to heavyweight in 2019. Since then, he’s remained undefeated and showed all his prowess to defeat Joshua, taking his titles. Usyk and Joshua are to have a rematch this year, and if the Ukrainian is to win for a second time, that will likely line up a fight with Fury. But if Usyk loses, it might not be the challenge Fury is looking for.
Anthony Joshua
This is the fight that the world wants to see, another all British bout but one which would sort out just who is the best in the world. Joshua has largely reigned the division since 2016 when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium in London, but he’s come under criticism after defeats to Andy Ruiz Jnr and Usyk. Although the rematch with Usyk looks likely for Joshua, even if he was to lose the demand for the fight with Fury is there. Although it isn’t likely to be the next bout for Fury, it will be very surprising not to see it coming shortly.
