[…] It’ll be a good fight. ”

Rudd made a good start, having reached the semifinals in his last three tournaments.

This is only the second time on 12 occasions that Shapovalov has reached the final of the ATP Championship.

Shapovalov won 75% of the rallies he played on his first serve points, in addition to saving three of the five break points he offered to Kovas.

He prefers grass or hard surfaces, but Shapovalov is convinced he can be successful on mud.

“I always knew I could play well on this surface,” Shapovalov said. Love the fastest tennis […] So I have to be a little more patient or play with more caution and with more intelligence.

“On the grass, you can get away with some hard shots. On clay, building points is like chess.”
