(London) The United Kingdom is planning to organize the next G7 summit, the first since the start of the epidemic and after Joe Biden assumed the presidency, from 11 to 13 June in the southwest of England, the British government announced on Saturday.

Downing Street said in a statement that the meeting of heads of state or government of the great powers will be held in the coastal town of Carbis Bay in Cornwall.

In addition to the G7 member states (the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany and Italy), the British government has invited Australia, India and South Korea to join the talks.

Last year, a summit was scheduled to take place in the United States but Donald Trump was forced to cancel it due to the novel coronavirus epidemic.

The UK is currently going through a strong wave of infections attributed to a new, more contagious type of virus and is currently contained but hopes to be able to lift restrictions in the spring with vaccination.

“Prime Minister (Boris Johnson) will benefit from this G7 summit, the first face-to-face summit in nearly two years, to ask leaders to seize the opportunity to better rebuild (the world) after the Coronavirus, united to make the future fairer, greener and prosperous.” Details of the press release.

The year 2021 is a crucial year on the international scene for the United Kingdom, which wants to establish itself, according to the concept of “global Britain”, as a major power, after its exit from the European Union.

In addition to the G7 summit, London will hold the presidency of the United Nations Security Council from February and host COP26 in Glasgow in November.
