Ralph Lauren ended his partnership with golfer Justin Thomas on Friday after the latter made anti-gay remarks last weekend at the Sentry Championship.

“We are frustrated by Mr. Thomas’s last words, which are completely inconsistent with our values,” the American clothing company said in a press release.

“Although he apologized and acknowledged the seriousness of his words, he is a driven ambassador for our brand and his actions conflict with the culture of inclusiveness we encourage.”

“Given the responsibility we bear towards our shareholders, we have decided not to sponsor Mr. Thomas for the time being.”

The American golfer was heard on the Golf Channel Network when he made anti-gay comments after he missed a shot in the third round of the Sentry Championship. Apologize profusely after that.

First, I just want to apologize, this is what the 27-year-old said. There is nothing that can justify my gesture. I am an adult and there was absolutely no reason for me to say this. It’s terrible. I’m so embarrassed. That’s not what I am. Unfortunately, I did and I have to admit it. I’m so sorry. “

Thomas and Ralph Lauren have had a partnership since 2013.
