New York was the first major US city to announce that: Proof of vaccination would be required to go to a number of enclosed spaces such as restaurants, theaters or sports.

A transition period for this system called “Key to NYC” was planned before the first checks in a month.

The passport arrives in the United States while the situation is very worrying due to the delta wreaking havoc in the southern states.

On top of that, New Orleans is struggling with several outbreaks of COVID-19 forcing some cities to offer a health passport.

“No more options,” Mayor Latoya Cantrell said Thursday. “The situation is desperate and we can’t wait any longer.”

It will therefore be necessary to provide evidence of vaccination or a negative test to go to a bar, restaurant, gym, or even participate in large outdoor events.

In front of the city’s decision, residents show two faces. There are those who resign and drag their doubts to the vaccination site to receive their first dose. And those who, in the evening, converge nonetheless on the French Vieux Carré, the center of the festive life of the largest city in this South American state.

Despite an increase in vaccinations since mid-July, only 37.9% of Louisiana residents have been fully vaccinated, compared to 50.6% across the United States.
