The spread of COVID in Canada is slowing down compared to other parts of the world, but cities like Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia are still seeing big spikes in positive COVID cases. Even though COVID-19 isn’t as infectious as it has been and we are not obligated to stay at home in the same way as before, some of us have gotten quite used to being at home – and would still prefer to be careful rather than careless.

If you’re one of those people, chances are you’ve spent a lot of hours at home by now. It’s also quite likely that you’ve run out of things to do to entertain yourself after logging off the last Zoom meeting of the day. If so, you’re in the right place. Below, we’ve compiled a list of suggestions to keep you busy at home while staying safe inside.

Test out your cooking and baking skills

If you haven’t jumped on the sourdough craze yet, it might be time to try it out. OK, if that’s not your thing, maybe not sourdough specifically – but many have found joy in baking and cooking in general during the pandemic, and so could you. You can easily spend hours learning about new cooking techniques and traditions. So, with all the time you save by not commuting, there’s really never been a better time to get into it. You not only get to kill time in the kitchen, but also reap the benefits of it, as you get to eat your creations afterwards. And if you keep a small bubble of friends to hang out with despite being careful, you could invite them over to test out your new skills.

Online games and gambling

If you can’t find a new show or book to get into, it may be time to expand your entertainment horizon with a few online games instead. There are many different games to play, either from your phone or your computer. It’s just a matter of choosing one. Who knows, maybe you’ll finally give Angry Birds a chance despite the hype over it being well and truly over – or discover a hidden talent for gambling? There are plenty of free spins and bonus codes out there to discover, so it isn’t necessarily costly, as long as you keep your head in the game and know when to stop. If you like more complex games where you need to strategize a bit, BlackJack might be fun for you to try.To get started, find a guide to BlackJack online and learn the rules quickly. Or if you just need an easy, luck-based game to take your mind off of life for a bit, slot machines may be more up your alley.

Find your ultimate home workout

Do you like being active but still don’t feel safe going to the gym? Don’t let the pandemic kill your gains, but try working out at home instead. Living in an apartment can feel a little cramped spacewise, but there are actually quite a few workouts that neither require you to have weights or much room. You should be able to get in a solid workout with just enough space for a yoga mat and, if needed, a few water bottles for added weight. Now that you have your setup, you can just pop on to YouTube for a HIIT or yoga workout, and you’re all set to come out of the pandemic stronger than ever.
